Do I need to get tested?
If you ever have been sexually active, it is important to get tested. This means vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Any sexual activity puts you at risk. Many Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)/Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) do not have symptoms until damage to your body has already been done. It is important to note that a woman’s annual PAP test (while important for detecting HPV) is not a full STD/STI screen.
What testing is offered?
We currently offer the following tests: HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea to anyone who requests them. We also offer a PAP test as part of a pelvic exam for women who are at least age 21 or sooner if the woman has been sexually active for at least 3 years. An HPV test may also be done as part of the PAP test if medically appropriate.
How and when are the tests performed?

HIV and Syphilis require a blood sample, while Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are tested from urine. Pap tests are done as part of a pelvic exam and are by appointment only.
Testing is offered to women and men.
Please call (310) 268-8400 to schedule your appointment. All appointments are subject to availability.
What should I do to prepare?
Please note the following before scheduling your appointment (for urine tests only):
1. Please be sure you are not menstruating at the time of your visit.
2. Please do not urinate at least 1 hour prior to your visit.
What if my test is positive?
If you test positive for Chlamydia or Gonorrhea, our medical staff will call in a prescription at a local pharmacy. If your HIV or Syphilis test is positive, you will be referred to a local clinic that specializes in this type of treatment. If your Pap test is abnormal, a physician will discuss with you recommended treatment and refer you to a local clinic if appropriate.
How much do the tests cost?
All WPC services are free. However, limited STD testing appointments are available each week and are subject to availability.
