What is it?
The Parenting Support Program at Westside Pregnancy Clinic is a unique support and mentoring program for pregnant women, mommies and/or daddies of babies on the way to the age of two. Our “by-appointment only” format allows you to receive support and education in a caring environment and at a pace that’s right for you.
Support Programs We Offer:
- Earn and Learn: participate in classroom style and one-on-one learning and earn materials resources.
- Pregnancy Workshops: explore the emotional aspects of pregnancy.
- Mindful Parenting Group: address the daily challenges of caring for a baby.
- Post-Partum Process Group: get help adjusting to life after your baby has been born.
- Fatherhood Seminars: become more educated on the important role of being a father.
What are the program requirements?
- An initial interview where you’ll need to bring a photo I.D.
- Proof of income showing that you and your family have significant need.
- You must currently be pregnant (provide proof of pregnancy) or have a child under the age of 2.
- “By-appointment only” means you must call in advance to schedule a visit. Note: if you are unable to keep your appointment, you must give at least 48 hours notice by phone (310) 820-2560 ext. 21.
Spotlight on Earn and Learn: What is it?
Earn and Learn is classroom style or one-on-one learning facilitated by experienced educators and lay counselors and provides:
- Educational resources on pregnancy and parenting
- Regularly scheduled visits for peer counseling support
- Opportunities to earn “Mommy or Daddy Dollars” to buy basic necessities for your baby and/or your pregnancy.
- Community referrals to hel you find additional support you might need.
Your appointment will be scheduled once a month and will include meeting with a peer counselor who will evaluate your needs, assign parenting curriculum and provide you with available supplies.
How do I earn “Mommy or Daddy Dollars?”
1 Mommy Dollar
* Provide proof of a well child check-up
* Provide proof of AFDC status
* Maintain your WIC elibility
2 Mommy Dollars
* Complete your assigned homework
* Arrive on time to your scheduled appointment
* Volunteer in the community
* Participate in a parenting or child birth class
* Attend a job training course
What can I buy with Mommy or Daddy Dollars?”
- Baby Clothing
- Maternity Clothing
- Diapers and Wipes
- Baby shoes and socks
- Toys and books
- Cribs
- And more
Note: Supplies are given to WPC on a donation basis and are not guaranteed at every appointment.
** Partners are also encouraged to participate in earning Mommy Dollars.
Why this program was created?
Here at the Westside Pregnancy Clinic, we recognize the importance of responsible parenting and want to encourage parents to be caring and motivated. We desire that parents know that they are not alone and can rely on our program for resources and emotional support. It is our goal that parents who “Earn and Learn” will allow this educational experience to benefit their children’s lives as well as their own.
